Write at the Edge Mindset Coaching
Kaizen-Muse Coaching underlies everything at Write at the Edge. This a gentle, non-linear approach to coaching designed by founder Jill Badonsky specifically for creative types. Kaizen comes from a Japanese business principle of using a series of continuous small steps to reach big goals. The "muse" part comes from the embodiment of principles of creativity into nine modern day muses, as laid out in Badonsky’s book Nine Modern Day Muses (and a Bodyguard)
I work with you to explore your unique creative process and teach you tools for working around dream killers like resistance, perfectionism, harsh self talk, procrastination, comparison, and other blocks.
The Myers-Briggs
The Myers-Briggs Temperament Index (MBTI) is a widely used personality profile assessment, well known in the business world where it is used by most Fortune 100 companies to enhance team building. The MBTI helps us understand what energizes us, how we take in information (and what kinds of information we tend to accept and trust), how we make decisions, and how we prefer to act on those decisions. This information is invaluable for helping us understand and trust our creative process.
On a personal note - the MBTI was a life changing event for me when I first encountered it years ago. I shed tears of hope and relief as I read about my type (INFP) and felt the world open up around me. I wasn't alone! There were other weird people like me out there, and for the first time in years I felt a glimmer of hope that I wasn't horribly flawed but just an INFP trying to live in a world largely inhabited and run by other types. That self awareness allowed me to immerse myself in writing, to develop my intuition, and to find my tribe.
If you're not interested in the Myers-Briggs, or already know your type, testing is not a mandatory part of coaching, but it is highly recommended.
Mind, Body, and Spirit
Your health is another widely overlooked component of the creative process. Depression, grief, and spiritual burnout have a significant impact on creativity. And if you are coping with a chronic disease you already know the effect that has on your energy and ability to think.
But many of us don't realize the enormous impact of sleep patterns, diet, exercise, and water intake on our emotional, physical, spiritual, and creative health. I will invite you to explore some of these areas, always without pressure or guilt.
Coaching Sessions
Coaching sessions can be conducted online through a free Zoom platform that lets us talk face to face from miles away, by telephone, or in person at the Swimming North office in downtown Colville, Washington.
That's it for the basics! Make yourself at home. I know that engaging with a coach is a huge step, so I invite you to take some time to get to know me. If you don't want or need coaching but just want to be part of a creative community, that's awesome too!
