Allison Brennan is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling and award winning author of three dozen thrillers and numerous short stories. I was honestly a tiny bit intimidated to interview her because of all that, but Pam Stack, head cat wrangler for the Authors on the Air show hosts, assured me that Allison is easy to talk to and a lot of fun.

She was right! I enjoyed our interview immensely. We spent what is likely an inordinate amount of time talking about chickens (sorry, Allison, for visiting my obsession upon your unsuspecting head) but also dug into how she manages to write novels about FBI characters with such accuracy and immediacy. Allison talked about shifting gears in publishing, how it feels to start a brand new series, balancing writing with kids and cats and…yes…chickens…and so much more!

I explained to Allison that one reason I loved The Third to Die was because it felt a bit like the book version of Criminal Minds, which is one of my favorite shows. Turns out Allison may not have viewed this as a compliment but she accepted it gracefully! Check out either the audio or video version of our chat below, and don’t forget to have a look at The Third to Die. Here’s the Amazon link and here’s the back cover blurb:

An edgy female police detective…An ambitious FBI special agent. Together they are at the heart of the ticking-clock investigation for a psychopathic serial killer. The bond they forge in this crucible sets the stage for high-stakes suspense.

Detective Kara Quinn, on leave from the LAPD, is on an early morning jog in her hometown of Liberty Lake when she comes upon the body of a young nurse. The manner of death shows a pattern of highly controlled rage. Meanwhile in DC, FBI special agent Mathias Costa is staffing his newly minted Mobile Response Team. Word reaches Matt that the Liberty Lake murder fits the profile of the compulsive Triple Killer. It will be the first case for the MRT. This time they have a chance to stop this zealous if elusive killer before he strikes again. But only if they can figure out who he is and where he is hiding before he disappears for another three years. The stakes are higher than ever before, because if they fail, one of their own will be next…
